Dr. George de Benneville was born in England of Huguenot family, became a convert to Universalism, studied medicine, and became an itinerant preacher among French Huguenots and in Germany and the Low Countries. He came to America in 1741, settling first in Germantown, then in Oley Valley, Berks County where he practiced medicine and preached. From the description of Autobiography, 1782.
